Born and raised in Chicagoland, Grace earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kent State University in Ohio. After working as an assistant in psychological research labs, she was accepted into a clinical psychology PhD program—but after three semesters, she made a sharp pivot. Grace went on to complete her Masters in Design at the University of Illinois Chicago in May 2021. Currently, Grace is a clinical assistant professor of digital media in the UIC School of Design, and also functions as the assistant director of events and communications for the school.
Grace has worked in a myriad of areas of design, but is particularly interested in the intersection of the physical and digital worlds, and the influence of digital space on our lives, focusing specifically on the rise of VR/AR/XR design and dimensional kinetic typography. Her thesis work manifested a combination of scientific design, video games, fictional narratives, and experimental typography. Her most recent interest is the use and analysis of typography in video games.
When she’s not running type experiments, Grace can be found playing video games, dancing at her local studio, and petting any cat that crosses her path.
